Eyes on my favorite lyricist, a man who should be known far and wide for his powerful way with words. Andrew Peterson is a glorious songwriter and poet, he has a way of capturing emotions that were too deep for anyone else to adequately touch.
In honor of #NationalPoetryMonth, here is his song “To All the Poets I Have Known”. I had to cut the chorus out to fit it into a picture for you all (shame on me, I know). So go check out the song here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9q1HIKpXIw

Ah, how it hurt her heart,
when she sang out her refrain
to find that most hands reaching back,
best understood her pain.
The sorrow in her songs
was the part which reached their souls,
they felt her hurt, her emptiness,
they met with matching holes.
And when she sang them songs
all of beauty, love, and grace,
they stared in puzzled silence, like
they did not know her face.
And so she sang the dark,
but she mixed it in with light,
so they could always find the stars
within the crushing night.

Just a touch of harmony,
A river through my skin!
I feel it like the swelling sea,
Cascading from my soul.
A rushing, thrushing waterfall,
My spirit drinks it in!
It breaks the bittered cynic wall,
It surges to console.
Like color bursting in the mind,
That flows in painted streams
And twists to blend, their hues entwined,
Mosaic mix of light!
Oh what intoxicating voice
That sizzles in my seams,
That lets the battered heart rejoice
Like stars within the night!
